² H3068 And the LORD H559 said [H8799]   H1439 unto Gideon H5971 , The people H7227 that are with thee are too many H5414 for me to give [H8800]   H4080 the Midianites H3027 into their hands H3478 , lest Israel H6286 vaunt [H8691]   H559 themselves against me, saying [H8800]   H3027 , Mine own hand H3467 hath saved [H8689]   me.

³ H4994 Now therefore go to H7121 , proclaim [H8798]   H241 in the ears H5971 of the people H559 , saying [H8800]   H3373 , Whosoever is fearful H2730 and afraid H7725 , let him return [H8799]   H6852 and depart early [H8799]   H2022 from mount H1568 Gilead H7725 . And there returned [H8799]   H5971 of the people H6242 twenty H8147 and two H505 thousand H7604 ; and there remained [H8738]   H6235 ten H505 thousand.

⁴ H3068 And the LORD H559 said [H8799]   H1439 unto Gideon H5971 , The people H7227 are yet too many H3381 ; bring them down [H8685]   H4325 unto the water H6884 , and I will try [H8799]   H559 them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say [H8799]   H3212 unto thee, This shall go [H8799]   H3212 with thee, the same shall go [H8799]   H559 with thee; and of whomsoever I say [H8799]   H3212 unto thee, This shall not go [H8799]   H3212 with thee, the same shall not go [H8799]  .

⁵ H3381 So he brought down [H8686]   H5971 the people H4325 unto the water H3068 : and the LORD H559 said [H8799]   H1439 unto Gideon H3952 , Every one that lappeth [H8799]   H4325 of the water H3956 with his tongue H3611 , as a dog H3952 lappeth [H8799]   H3322 , him shalt thou set [H8686]   H3766 by himself; likewise every one that boweth down [H8799]   H1290 upon his knees H8354 to drink [H8800]  .

⁶ H4557 And the number H3952 of them that lapped [H8764]   H3027 , putting their hand H6310 to their mouth H7969 , were three H3967 hundred H376 men H3499 : but all the rest H5971 of the people H3766 bowed down [H8804]   H1290 upon their knees H8354 to drink [H8800]   H4325 water.

⁷ H3068 And the LORD H559 said [H8799]   H1439 unto Gideon H7969 , By the three H3967 hundred H376 men H3952 that lapped [H8764]   H3467 will I save [H8686]   H5414 you, and deliver [H8804]   H4080 the Midianites H3027 into thine hand H5971 : and let all the other people H3212 go [H8799]   H376 every man H4725 unto his place.

⁸ H5971 So the people H3947 took [H8799]   H6720 victuals H3027 in their hand H7782 , and their trumpets H7971 : and he sent [H8765]   H376 all H3478 the rest of Israel H376 every man H168 unto his tent H2388 , and retained [H8689]   H7969 those three H3967 hundred H376 men H4264 : and the host H4080 of Midian H6010 was beneath him in the valley.

⁹ H3915 And it came to pass the same night H3068 , that the LORD H559 said [H8799]   H6965 unto him, Arise [H8798]   H3381 , get thee down [H8798]   H4264 unto the host H5414 ; for I have delivered [H8804]   H3027 it into thine hand.

¹⁰ H3373 But if thou fear H3381 to go down [H8800]   H3381 , go H6513 thou with Phurah H5288 thy servant H3381 down [H8798]   H4264 to the host:

¹¹ H8085 And thou shalt hear [H8804]   H1696 what they say [H8762]   H310 ; and afterward H3027 shall thine hands H2388 be strengthened [H8799]   H3381 to go down [H8804]   H4264 unto the host H3381 . Then went he down [H8799]   H6513 with Phurah H5288 his servant H7097 unto the outside H2571 of the armed men H4264 that were in the host.

¹² H4080 And the Midianites H6002 and the Amalekites H1121 and all the children H6924 of the east H5307 lay [H8802]   H6010 along in the valley H697 like grasshoppers H7230 for multitude H1581 ; and their camels H4557 were without number H2344 , as the sand H3220 by the sea H8193 side H7230 for multitude.

¹³ H1439 And when Gideon H935 was come [H8799]   H376 , behold, there was a man H5608 that told [H8764]   H2472 a dream H7453 unto his fellow H559 , and said [H8799]   H2492 , Behold, I dreamed [H8804]   H2472 a dream H6742 , and, lo, a cake [H8675]   H6742   H8184 of barley H3899 bread H2015 tumbled [H8693]   H4264 into the host H4080 of Midian H935 , and came [H8799]   H168 unto a tent H5221 , and smote [H8686]   H5307 it that it fell [H8799]   H2015 , and overturned [H8799]   H4605   H168 it, that the tent H5307 lay along [H8804]  .

¹⁴ H7453 And his fellow H6030 answered [H8799]   H559 and said [H8799]   H2719 , This is nothing else save the sword H1439 of Gideon H1121 the son H3101 of Joash H376 , a man H3478 of Israel H3027 : for into his hand H430 hath God H5414 delivered [H8804]   H4080 Midian H4264 , and all the host.

¹⁵ H1439 And it was so, when Gideon H8085 heard [H8800]   H4557 the telling H2472 of the dream H7667 , and the interpretation H7812 thereof, that he worshipped [H8691]   H7725 , and returned [H8799]   H4264 into the host H3478 of Israel H559 , and said [H8799]   H6965 , Arise [H8798]   H3068 ; for the LORD H5414 hath delivered [H8804]   H3027 into your hand H4264 the host H4080 of Midian.

¹⁶ H2673 And he divided [H8799]   H7969 the three H3967 hundred H376 men H7969 into three H7218 companies H5414 , and he put [H8799]   H7782 a trumpet H3027 in every man's hand H7386 , with empty H3537 pitchers H3940 , and lamps H8432 within H3537 the pitchers.

¹⁷ H559 And he said [H8799]   H7200 unto them, Look [H8799]   H6213 on me, and do [H8799]   H935 likewise: and, behold, when I come [H8802]   H7097 to the outside H4264 of the camp H6213 , it shall be that, as I do [H8799]   H6213 , so shall ye do [H8799]  .

¹⁸ H8628 When I blow [H8804]   H7782 with a trumpet H8628 , I and all that are with me, then blow [H8804]   H7782 ye the trumpets H5439 also on every side H4264 of all the camp H559 , and say [H8804]   H3068 , The sword of the LORD H1439 , and of Gideon.

¹⁹ H1439 So Gideon H3967 , and the hundred H376 men H935 that were with him, came [H8799]   H7097 unto the outside H4264 of the camp H7218 in the beginning H8484 of the middle H821 watch H389 ; and they had but H6965 newly [H8687]   H6965 set [H8689]   H8104 the watch [H8802]   H8628 : and they blew [H8799]   H7782 the trumpets H5310 , and brake [H8800]   H3537 the pitchers H3027 that were in their hands.

²⁰ H7969 And the three H7218 companies H8628 blew [H8799]   H7782 the trumpets H7665 , and brake [H8799]   H3537 the pitchers H2388 , and held [H8686]   H3940 the lamps H8040 in their left H3027 hands H7782 , and the trumpets H3225 in their right H3027 hands H8628 to blow [H8800]   H7121 withal : and they cried [H8799]   H2719 , The sword H3068 of the LORD H1439 , and of Gideon.

²¹ H5975 And they stood [H8799]   H376 every man H5439 in his place round about H4264 the camp H4264 : and all the host H7323 ran [H8799]   H7321 , and cried [H8686]   H5127 , and fled [H8799]   [H8675]   H5127   [H8686]  .

²² H7969 And the three H3967 hundred H8628 blew [H8799]   H7782 the trumpets H3068 , and the LORD H7760 set [H8799]   H376 every man's H2719 sword H7453 against his fellow H4264 , even throughout all the host H4264 : and the host H5127 fled [H8799]   H1029 to Bethshittah H6888 in Zererath H8193 , and to the border H65 of Abelmeholah H2888 , unto Tabbath.

²³ H376 And the men H3478 of Israel H6817 gathered themselves together [H8735]   H5321 out of Naphtali H836 , and out of Asher H4519 , and out of all Manasseh H7291 , and pursued [H8799]   H310 after H4080 the Midianites.

²⁴ H1439 And Gideon H7971 sent [H8804]   H4397 messengers H2022 throughout all mount H669 Ephraim H559 , saying [H8800]   H3381 , Come down [H8798]   H7125 against [H8800]   H4080 the Midianites H3920 , and take [H8798]   H4325 before them the waters H1012 unto Bethbarah H3383 and Jordan H376 . Then all the men H669 of Ephraim H6817 gathered themselves together [H8735]   H3920 , and took [H8799]   H4325 the waters H1012 unto Bethbarah H3383 and Jordan.

²⁵ H3920 And they took [H8799]   H8147 two H8269 princes H4080 of the Midianites H6159 , Oreb H2062 and Zeeb H2026 ; and they slew [H8799]   H6159 Oreb H6697 upon the rock H6159 Oreb H2062 , and Zeeb H2026 they slew [H8804]   H3342 at the winepress H2062 of Zeeb H7291 , and pursued [H8799]   H4080 Midian H935 , and brought [H8689]   H7218 the heads H6159 of Oreb H2062 and Zeeb H1439 to Gideon H5676 on the other side H3383 Jordan.
