² H3169 And when Hezekiah H7200 saw [H8799]   H5576 that Sennacherib H935 was come [H8804]   H6440 , and that he was purposed H4421 to fight H3389 against Jerusalem,

³ H3289 He took counsel [H8735]   H8269 with his princes H1368 and his mighty men H5640 to stop [H8800]   H4325 the waters H5869 of the fountains H2351 which were without H5892 the city H5826 : and they did help [H8799]   him.

⁴ H6908 So there was gathered H7227 much H5971 people H6908 together [H8735]   H5640 , who stopped [H8799]   H4599 all the fountains H5158 , and the brook H7857 that ran [H8802]   H8432 through the midst H776 of the land H559 , saying [H8800]   H4428 , Why should the kings H804 of Assyria H935 come [H8799]   H4672 , and find [H8804]   H7227 much H4325 water?

⁵ H2388 Also he strengthened [H8691]   H1129 himself, and built up [H8799]   H2346 all the wall H6555 that was broken [H8803]   H5927 , and raised it up [H8686]   H4026 to the towers H312 , and another H2346 wall H2351 without H2388 , and repaired [H8762]   H4407 Millo H5892 in the city H1732 of David H6213 , and made [H8799]   H7973 darts H4043 and shields H7230 in abundance.

⁶ H5414 And he set [H8799]   H8269 captains H4421 of war H5971 over the people H6908 , and gathered them together [H8799]   H7339 to him in the street H8179 of the gate H5892 of the city H1696 , and spake [H8762]   H3824 comfortably H559 to them, saying [H8800]  ,

⁷ H2388 Be strong [H8798]   H553 and courageous [H8798]   H3372 , be not afraid [H8799]   H2865 nor dismayed [H8735]   H6440 for H4428 the king H804 of Assyria H1995 , nor for all the multitude H7227 that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:

⁸ H2220 With him is an arm H1320 of flesh H3068 ; but with us is the LORD H430 our God H5826 to help [H8800]   H3898 us, and to fight [H8736]   H4421 our battles H5971 . And the people H5564 rested [H8735]   H1697 themselves upon the words H3169 of Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah.

⁹ H310 After H5576 this did Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H7971 send [H8804]   H5650 his servants H3389 to Jerusalem H3923 , (but he himself laid siege against Lachish H4475 , and all his power H3169 with him,) unto Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah H3063 , and unto all Judah H3389 that were at Jerusalem H559 , saying [H8800]  ,

¹⁰ H559 Thus saith [H8804]   H5576 Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H982 , Whereon do ye trust [H8802]   H3427 , that ye abide [H8802]   H4692 in the siege H3389 in Jerusalem?

¹¹ H3169 Doth not Hezekiah H5496 persuade [H8688]   H5414 you to give [H8800]   H4191 over yourselves to die [H8800]   H7458 by famine H6772 and by thirst H559 , saying [H8800]   H3068 , The LORD H430 our God H5337 shall deliver [H8686]   H3709 us out of the hand H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria?

¹² H3169 Hath not the same Hezekiah H5493 taken away [H8689]   H1116 his high places H4196 and his altars H559 , and commanded [H8799]   H3063 Judah H3389 and Jerusalem H559 , saying [H8800]   H7812 , Ye shall worship [H8691]   H6440 before H259 one H4196 altar H6999 , and burn incense [H8686]   upon it?

¹³ H3045 Know [H8799]   H1 ye not what I and my fathers H6213 have done [H8804]   H5971 unto all the people H776 of other lands H430 ? were the gods H1471 of the nations H776 of those lands H3201 any ways [H8800]   H3201 able [H8804]   H5337 to deliver [H8687]   H776 their lands H3027 out of mine hand?

¹⁴ H430 Who was there among all the gods H1471 of those nations H1 that my fathers H2763 utterly destroyed [H8689]   H3201 , that could [H8804]   H5337 deliver [H8687]   H5971 his people H3027 out of mine hand H430 , that your God H3201 should be able [H8799]   H5337 to deliver [H8687]   H3027 you out of mine hand?

¹⁵ H3808 Now therefore let not H2396 Hezekiah H5377 deceive [H8686]   H5496 you, nor persuade [H8686]   H539 you on this manner, neither yet believe [H8686]   H433 him: for no god H1471 of any nation H4467 or kingdom H3201 was able [H8799]   H5337 to deliver [H8687]   H5971 his people H3027 out of mine hand H3027 , and out of the hand H1 of my fathers H430 : how much less shall your God H5337 deliver [H8686]   H3027 you out of mine hand?

¹⁶ H5650 And his servants H1696 spake [H8765]   H3068 yet more against the LORD H430 God H5650 , and against his servant H3169 Hezekiah.

¹⁷ H3789 He wrote [H8804]   H5612 also letters H2778 to rail [H8763]   H3068 on the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H559 , and to speak [H8800]   H559 against him, saying [H8800]   H430 , As the gods H1471 of the nations H776 of other lands H5337 have not delivered [H8689]   H5971 their people H3027 out of mine hand H430 , so shall not the God H3169 of Hezekiah H5337 deliver [H8686]   H5971 his people H3027 out of mine hand.

¹⁸ H7121 Then they cried [H8799]   H1419 with a loud H6963 voice H3066 in the Jews' speech H5971 unto the people H3389 of Jerusalem H2346 that were on the wall H3372 , to affright [H8763]   H926 them, and to trouble [H8763]   H3920 them; that they might take [H8799]   H5892 the city.

¹⁹ H1696 And they spake [H8762]   H5921 against H430 the God H3389 of Jerusalem H430 , as against the gods H5971 of the people H776 of the earth H4639 , which were the work H3027 of the hands H120 of man.

²⁰ H3169 And for this cause Hezekiah H4428 the king H5030 , and the prophet H3470 Isaiah H1121 the son H531 of Amoz H6419 , prayed [H8691]   H2199 and cried [H8799]   H8064 to heaven.

²¹ H3068 And the LORD H7971 sent [H8799]   H4397 an angel H3582 , which cut off [H8686]   H1368 all the mighty men H2428 of valour H5057 , and the leaders H8269 and captains H4264 in the camp H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria H7725 . So he returned [H8799]   H1322 with shame H6440 of face H776 to his own land H935 . And when he was come [H8799]   H1004 into the house H430 of his god H3329 , they that came forth H4578 of his own bowels H5307 slew [H8689]   H2719 him there with the sword.

²² H3068 Thus the LORD H3467 saved [H8686]   H3169 Hezekiah H3427 and the inhabitants [H8802]   H3389 of Jerusalem H3027 from the hand H5576 of Sennacherib H4428 the king H804 of Assyria H3027 , and from the hand H5095 of all other, and guided [H8762]   H5439 them on every side.

²³ H7227 And many H935 brought [H8688]   H4503 gifts H3068 unto the LORD H3389 to Jerusalem H4030 , and presents H3169 to Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah H5375 : so that he was magnified [H8735]   H5869 in the sight H1471 of all nations H310 from thenceforth.

²⁴ H3117 In those days H3169 Hezekiah H2470 was sick [H8804]   H4191 to the death [H8800]   H6419 , and prayed [H8691]   H3068 unto the LORD H559 : and he spake [H8799]   H5414 unto him, and he gave [H8804]   H4159 him a sign.

²⁵ H3169 But Hezekiah H7725 rendered not again [H8689]   H1576 according to the benefit H3820 done unto him; for his heart H1361 was lifted up [H8804]   H7110 : therefore there was wrath H3063 upon him, and upon Judah H3389 and Jerusalem.

²⁶ H3169 Notwithstanding Hezekiah H3665 humbled [H8735]   H1363 himself for the pride H3820 of his heart H3427 , both he and the inhabitants [H8802]   H3389 of Jerusalem H7110 , so that the wrath H3068 of the LORD H935 came [H8804]   H3117 not upon them in the days H3169 of Hezekiah.

²⁷ H3169 And Hezekiah H3966 had exceeding H7235 much [H8687]   H6239 riches H3519 and honour H6213 : and he made [H8804]   H214 himself treasuries H3701 for silver H2091 , and for gold H3368 , and for precious H68 stones H1314 , and for spices H4043 , and for shields H2532 , and for all manner of pleasant H3627 jewels;

²⁸ H4543 Storehouses H8393 also for the increase H1715 of corn H8492 , and wine H3323 , and oil H723 ; and stalls H929 for all manner of beasts H220 , and cotes H5739 for flocks.

²⁹ H6213 Moreover he provided [H8804]   H5892 him cities H4735 , and possessions H6629 of flocks H1241 and herds H7230 in abundance H430 : for God H5414 had given [H8804]   H7399 him substance H3966 very H7227 much.

³⁰ H3169 This same Hezekiah H5640 also stopped [H8804]   H5945 the upper H4161 watercourse H4325   H1521 of Gihon H3474 , and brought it straight [H8762]   H4295 down H4628 to the west side H5892 of the city H1732 of David H3169 . And Hezekiah H6743 prospered [H8686]   H4639 in all his works.

³¹ H3651 Howbeit H3887 in the business of the ambassadors [H8688]   H8269 of the princes H894 of Babylon H7971 , who sent [H8764]   H1875 unto him to enquire [H8800]   H4159 of the wonder H776 that was done in the land H430 , God H5800 left [H8804]   H5254 him, to try [H8763]   H3045 him, that he might know [H8800]   H3824 all that was in his heart.

³² H3499 Now the rest H1697 of the acts H3169 of Hezekiah H2617 , and his goodness H3789 , behold, they are written [H8803]   H2377 in the vision H3470 of Isaiah H5030 the prophet H1121 , the son H531 of Amoz H5612 , and in the book H4428 of the kings H3063 of Judah H3478 and Israel.

³³ H3169 And Hezekiah H7901 slept [H8799]   H1 with his fathers H6912 , and they buried [H8799]   H4608 him in the chiefest H6913 of the sepulchres H1121 of the sons H1732 of David H3063 : and all Judah H3427 and the inhabitants [H8802]   H3389 of Jerusalem H6213 did him [H8804]   H3519 honour H4194 at his death H4519 . And Manasseh H1121 his son H4427 reigned [H8799]   in his stead.
