³ H3027 By the hand H501 of Elasah H1121 the son H8227 of Shaphan H1587 , and Gemariah H1121 the son H2518 of Hilkiah H6667 , (whom Zedekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah H7971 sent [H8804]   H894 unto Babylon H5019 to Nebuchadnezzar H4428 king H894 of Babylon H559 ) saying [H8800]  ,

⁴ H559 Thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H430 , the God H3478 of Israel H1473 , unto all that are carried away captives H1540 , whom I have caused to be carried away [H8689]   H3389 from Jerusalem H894 unto Babylon;

⁵ H1129 Build [H8798]   H1004 ye houses H3427 , and dwell [H8798]   H5193 in them; and plant [H8798]   H1593 gardens H398 , and eat [H8798]   H6529 the fruit of them;

⁶ H3947 Take [H8798]   H802 ye wives H3205 , and beget [H8685]   H1121 sons H1323 and daughters H3947 ; and take [H8798]   H802 wives H1121 for your sons H5414 , and give [H8798]   H1323 your daughters H582 to husbands H3205 , that they may bear [H8799]   H1121 sons H1121 and daughters H7235 ; that ye may be increased [H8798]   H4591 there, and not diminished [H8799]  .

⁷ H1875 And seek [H8798]   H7965 the peace H5892 of the city H1540 whither I have caused you to be carried away captives [H8689]   H6419 , and pray [H8690]   H3068 unto the LORD H7965 for it: for in the peace H7965 thereof shall ye have peace.

⁸ H559 For thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H430 , the God H3478 of Israel H5030 ; Let not your prophets H7080 and your diviners [H8802]   H7130 , that be in the midst H5377 of you, deceive [H8686]   H8085 you, neither hearken [H8799]   H2472 to your dreams H2492 which ye cause to be dreamed [H8688]  .

⁹ H5012 For they prophesy [H8737]   H8267 falsely H8034 unto you in my name H7971 : I have not sent [H8804]   H5002 them, saith [H8803]   H3068 the LORD.

¹⁰ H559 For thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6310 , That after H7657 seventy H8141 years H4390 be accomplished [H8800]   H894 at Babylon H6485 I will visit [H8799]   H6965 you, and perform [H8689]   H2896 my good H1697 word H7725 toward you, in causing you to return [H8687]   H4725 to this place.

¹¹ H3045 For I know [H8804]   H4284 the thoughts H2803 that I think [H8802]   H5002 toward you, saith [H8803]   H3068 the LORD H4284 , thoughts H7965 of peace H7451 , and not of evil H5414 , to give [H8800]   H8615 you an expected H319 end.

¹² H7121 Then shall ye call [H8804]   H1980 upon me, and ye shall go [H8804]   H6419 and pray [H8694]   H8085 unto me, and I will hearken [H8804]   unto you.

¹³ H1245 And ye shall seek [H8765]   H4672 me, and find [H8804]   H1875 me, when ye shall search [H8799]   H3824 for me with all your heart.

¹⁴ H4672 And I will be found [H8738]   H5002 of you, saith [H8803]   H3068 the LORD H7725 : and I will turn away [H8804]   H7622 your captivity [H8675]   H7622   H6908 , and I will gather [H8765]   H1471 you from all the nations H4725 , and from all the places H5080 whither I have driven [H8689]   H5002 you, saith [H8803]   H3068 the LORD H7725 ; and I will bring you again [H8689]   H4725 into the place H1540 whence I caused you to be carried away captive [H8689]  .

¹⁵ H559 Because ye have said [H8804]   H3068 , The LORD H6965 hath raised us up [H8689]   H5030 prophets H894 in Babylon;

¹⁶ H559 Know that thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H4428 of the king H3427 that sitteth [H8802]   H3678 upon the throne H1732 of David H5971 , and of all the people H3427 that dwelleth [H8802]   H5892 in this city H251 , and of your brethren H3318 that are not gone forth [H8804]   H1473 with you into captivity;

¹⁷ H559 Thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H7971 ; Behold, I will send [H8764]   H2719 upon them the sword H7458 , the famine H1698 , and the pestilence H5414 , and will make [H8804]   H8182 them like vile H8384 figs H398 , that cannot be eaten [H8735]   H7455 , they are so evil.

¹⁸ H7291 And I will persecute [H8804]   H310 them H2719 with the sword H7458 , with the famine H1698 , and with the pestilence H5414 , and will deliver [H8804]   H2189 them to be removed [H8675]   H2113   H4467 to all the kingdoms H776 of the earth H423 , to be a curse H8047 , and an astonishment H8322 , and an hissing H2781 , and a reproach H1471 , among all the nations H5080 whither I have driven [H8689]   them:

²² H3947 And of them shall be taken up [H8795]   H7045 a curse H1546 by all the captivity H3063 of Judah H894 which are in Babylon H559 , saying [H8800]   H3068 , The LORD H7760 make [H8799]   H6667 thee like Zedekiah H256 and like Ahab H4428 , whom the king H894 of Babylon H7033 roasted [H8804]   H784 in the fire;

²³ H6213 Because they have committed [H8804]   H5039 villany H3478 in Israel H6213 , and have committed [H8804]   H5003 adultery [H8762]   H7453 with their neighbours H802 ' wives H1696 , and have spoken [H8762]   H8267 lying H1697 words H8034 in my name H6680 , which I have not commanded [H8765]   H3045 them; even I know [H8802]   H5707 , and am a witness H5002 , saith [H8803]   H3068 the LORD.

²⁴ H559 Thus shalt thou also speak [H8799]   H8098 to Shemaiah H5161 the Nehelamite H559 , saying [H8800]  ,

²⁵ H559 Thus speaketh [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H430 , the God H3478 of Israel H559 , saying [H8800]   H7971 , Because thou hast sent [H8804]   H5612 letters H8034 in thy name H5971 unto all the people H3389 that are at Jerusalem H6846 , and to Zephaniah H1121 the son H4641 of Maaseiah H3548 the priest H3548 , and to all the priests H559 , saying [H8800]  ,

²⁶ H3068 The LORD H5414 hath made [H8804]   H3548 thee priest H3077 in the stead of Jehoiada H3548 the priest H6496 , that ye should be officers H1004 in the house H3068 of the LORD H376 , for every man H7696 that is mad [H8794]   H5012 , and maketh himself a prophet [H8693]   H5414 , that thou shouldest put [H8804]   H4115 him in prison H6729 , and in the stocks.

²⁷ H1605 Now therefore why hast thou not reproved [H8804]   H3414 Jeremiah H6069 of Anathoth H5012 , which maketh himself a prophet [H8693]   to you?

²⁸ H7971 For therefore he sent [H8804]   H894 unto us in Babylon H559 , saying [H8800]   H1931 , This H752 captivity is long H1129 : build [H8798]   H1004 ye houses H3427 , and dwell [H8798]   H5193 in them; and plant [H8798]   H1593 gardens H398 , and eat [H8798]   H6529 the fruit of them.

²⁹ H6846 And Zephaniah H3548 the priest H7121 read [H8799]   H5612 this letter H241 in the ears H3414 of Jeremiah H5030 the prophet.

³⁰ H1697 Then came the word H3068 of the LORD H3414 unto Jeremiah H559 , saying [H8800]  ,

³¹ H7971 Send [H8798]   H1473 to all them of the captivity H559 , saying [H8800]   H559 , Thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H8098 concerning Shemaiah H5161 the Nehelamite H8098 ; Because that Shemaiah H5012 hath prophesied [H8738]   H7971 unto you, and I sent [H8804]   H982 him not, and he caused you to trust [H8686]   H8267 in a lie:

³² H559 Therefore thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6485 ; Behold, I will punish [H8802]   H8098 Shemaiah H5161 the Nehelamite H2233 , and his seed H376 : he shall not have a man H3427 to dwell [H8802]   H8432 among H5971 this people H7200 ; neither shall he behold [H8799]   H2896 the good H6213 that I will do [H8802]   H5971 for my people H5002 , saith [H8803]   H3068 the LORD H1696 ; because he hath taught [H8765]   H5627 rebellion H3068 against the LORD.
