² H6213 And he wrought [H8799]   H7451 evil H5869 in the sight H3068 of the LORD H1 ; but not like his father H517 , and like his mother H5493 : for he put away [H8686]   H4676 the image H1168 of Baal H1 that his father H6213 had made [H8804]  .

³ H1692 Nevertheless he cleaved [H8804]   H2403 unto the sins H3379 of Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat H3478 , which made Israel H2398 to sin [H8689]   H5493 ; he departed [H8804]   not therefrom.

⁴ H4338 And Mesha H4428 king H4124 of Moab H5349 was a sheepmaster H7725 , and rendered [H8689]   H4428 unto the king H3478 of Israel H3967 an hundred H505 thousand H3733 lambs H3967 , and an hundred H505 thousand H352 rams H6785 , with the wool.

⁵ H256 But it came to pass, when Ahab H4194 was dead H4428 , that the king H4124 of Moab H6586 rebelled [H8799]   H4428 against the king H3478 of Israel.

⁶ H4428 And king H3088 Jehoram H3318 went out [H8799]   H8111 of Samaria H3117 the same time H6485 , and numbered [H8799]   H3478 all Israel.

⁷ H3212 And he went [H8799]   H7971 and sent [H8799]   H3092 to Jehoshaphat H4428 the king H3063 of Judah H559 , saying [H8800]   H4428 , The king H4124 of Moab H6586 hath rebelled [H8804]   H3212 against me: wilt thou go [H8799]   H4124 with me against Moab H4421 to battle H559 ? And he said [H8799]   H5927 , I will go up [H8799]   H5971 : I am as thou art, my people H5971 as thy people H5483 , and my horses H5483 as thy horses.

⁸ H559 And he said [H8799]   H1870 , Which way H5927 shall we go up [H8799]   H559 ? And he answered [H8799]   H1870 , The way H4057 through the wilderness H123 of Edom.

⁹ H4428 So the king H3478 of Israel H3212 went [H8799]   H4428 , and the king H3063 of Judah H4428 , and the king H123 of Edom H5437 : and they fetched a compass [H8799]   H7651 of seven H3117 days H1870 ' journey H4325 : and there was no water H4264 for the host H929 , and for the cattle H7272 that followed them.

¹⁰ H4428 And the king H3478 of Israel H559 said [H8799]   H162 , Alas H3068 ! that the LORD H7121 hath called H7969 these three H4428 kings H7121 together [H8804]   H5414 , to deliver [H8800]   H3027 them into the hand H4124 of Moab!

¹¹ H3092 But Jehoshaphat H559 said [H8799]   H5030 , Is there not here a prophet H3068 of the LORD H1875 , that we may enquire [H8799]   H3068 of the LORD H259 by him? And one H4428 of the king H3478 of Israel's H5650 servants H6030 answered [H8799]   H559 and said [H8799]   H477 , Here is Elisha H1121 the son H8202 of Shaphat H3332 , which poured [H8804]   H4325 water H3027 on the hands H452 of Elijah.

¹² H3092 And Jehoshaphat H559 said [H8799]   H1697 , The word H3068 of the LORD H3426 is H4428 with him. So the king H3478 of Israel H3092 and Jehoshaphat H4428 and the king H123 of Edom H3381 went down [H8799]   to him.

¹³ H477 And Elisha H559 said [H8799]   H4428 unto the king H3478 of Israel H3212 , What have I to do with thee? get [H8798]   H5030 thee to the prophets H1 of thy father H5030 , and to the prophets H517 of thy mother H4428 . And the king H3478 of Israel H559 said [H8799]   H3068 unto him, Nay: for the LORD H7121 hath called H7969 these three H4428 kings H7121 together [H8804]   H5414 , to deliver [H8800]   H3027 them into the hand H4124 of Moab.

¹⁴ H477 And Elisha H559 said [H8799]   H3068 , As the LORD H6635 of hosts H2416 liveth H6440 , before H5975 whom I stand [H8804]   H3884 , surely, were it not that H5375 I regard [H8802]   H6440 the presence H3092 of Jehoshaphat H4428 the king H3063 of Judah H5027 , I would not look [H8686]   H7200 toward thee, nor see [H8799]   thee.

¹⁵ H3947 But now bring [H8798]   H5059 me a minstrel [H8764]   H5059 . And it came to pass, when the minstrel [H8764]   H5059 played [H8763]   H3027 , that the hand H3068 of the LORD came upon him.

¹⁶ H559 And he said [H8799]   H559 , Thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H6213 , Make [H8800]   H5158 this valley H1356 full of ditches.

¹⁷ H559 For thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H7200 , Ye shall not see [H8799]   H7307 wind H7200 , neither shall ye see [H8799]   H1653 rain H5158 ; yet that valley H4390 shall be filled [H8735]   H4325 with water H8354 , that ye may drink [H8804]   H4735 , both ye, and your cattle H929 , and your beasts.

¹⁸ H7043 And this is but a light thing [H8738]   H5869 in the sight H3068 of the LORD H5414 : he will deliver [H8804]   H4124 the Moabites H3027 also into your hand.

¹⁹ H5221 And ye shall smite [H8689]   H4013 every fenced H5892 city H4004 , and every choice H5892 city H5307 , and shall fell [H8686]   H2896 every good H6086 tree H5640 , and stop [H8799]   H4599 all wells H4325 of water H3510 , and mar [H8686]   H2896 every good H2513 piece H68 of land with stones.

²⁰ H1242 And it came to pass in the morning H4503 , when the meat offering H5927 was offered [H8800]   H935 , that, behold, there came [H8802]   H4325 water H1870 by the way H123 of Edom H776 , and the country H4390 was filled [H8735]   H4325 with water.

²¹ H4124 And when all the Moabites H8085 heard [H8804]   H4428 that the kings H5927 were come up [H8804]   H3898 to fight [H8736]   H6817 against them, they gathered [H8735]   H2296 all that were able to put [H8802]   H2290 on armour H4605 , and upward H5975 , and stood [H8799]   H1366 in the border.

²² H7925 And they rose up early [H8686]   H1242 in the morning H8121 , and the sun H2224 shone [H8804]   H4325 upon the water H4124 , and the Moabites H7200 saw [H8799]   H4325 the water H5048 on the other side H122 as red H1818 as blood:

²³ H559 And they said [H8799]   H1818 , This is blood H4428 : the kings H2717 are surely [H8715]   H2717 slain [H8738]   H5221 , and they have smitten [H8686]   H376 one H7453 another H4124 : now therefore, Moab H7998 , to the spoil.

²⁴ H935 And when they came [H8799]   H4264 to the camp H3478 of Israel H3478 , the Israelites H6965 rose up [H8799]   H5221 and smote [H8686]   H4124 the Moabites H5127 , so that they fled [H8799]   H6440 before H5221 them: but they went forward [H8686]   H5221 smiting [H8687]   H4124 the Moabites, even in their country.

²⁵ H2040 And they beat down [H8799]   H5892 the cities H2896 , and on every good H2513 piece H7993 of land cast [H8686]   H376 every man H68 his stone H4390 , and filled [H8765]   H5640 it; and they stopped [H8799]   H4599 all the wells H4325 of water H5307 , and felled [H8686]   H2896 all the good H6086 trees H7025 : only in Kirharaseth H7604 left [H8689]   H68 they the stones H7051 thereof; howbeit the slingers H5437 went about [H8799]   H5221 it, and smote [H8686]   it.

²⁶ H4428 And when the king H4124 of Moab H7200 saw [H8799]   H4421 that the battle H2388 was too sore [H8804]   H3947 for him, he took [H8799]   H7651 with him seven H3967 hundred H376 men H8025 that drew [H8802]   H2719 swords H1234 , to break through [H8687]   H4428 even unto the king H123 of Edom H3201 : but they could [H8804]   not.

²⁷ H3947 Then he took [H8799]   H1060 his eldest H1121 son H4427 that should have reigned [H8799]   H5927 in his stead, and offered [H8686]   H5930 him for a burnt offering H2346 upon the wall H1419 . And there was great H7110 indignation H3478 against Israel H5265 : and they departed [H8799]   H7725 from him, and returned [H8799]   H776 to their own land.
